CQS Solutions/Bowen Consultants provides professional advice and services to contractors and sub-contractors in the construction industry in order to improve cost certainty, margin and productivity and mitigate risks for business owners.
CQS are a dynamic team of surveyors, diverse in thinking, have a consultative approach and we operate an innovative quantity surveying practice. We are continuously adapting to new construction tools and techniques such as BIM and Modern Methods of Construction.
Assisting the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the development and implementation of all pre and post contract strategies, commercial functions and contract reporting. Specifically, this role will involve work on building projects within all construction sectors; assisting on the delivery of a mixed range of projects, working closely with contractors and sub-contractors.
Hours of work are 42½ hours per week – Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 5.00pm
Salary circa £27k pa (dependant on skills and experience)

The AQS will take accountability for personal and professional development – developing a portfolio of clients. You will be responsible for:
- Prepare tender & contract documents,
- Procure materials and services in accordance with the construction programme,
- Value completed work and arrange payments or make applications for payment,
- Prepare and analyse costing’s for tenders,
- Provide records and analysis for contractual claims,
- Develop resourced programmes in conjunction with production staff,
- Complies with and helps to enforce policies and procedures,
- Administer Site records relating to commercial and production aspects,
- Awareness and understanding of project opportunities and risks,
- Demonstrate awareness of key project objectives and priorities,
- Work to assist in measurement and valuation, Internal and External valuation, preparation of subcontract accounts and material orders, tendering works for multiple trades,
- Regularly monitors progress of designated tasks and take appropriate action in order to complete tasks thoroughly and on programme,
- Create and regularly review objectives and action plans for project and personal tasks,
- Regularly complete accurate and clearly annotated on and off-site measurement / take off’s for presentation to clients/submission with interim and final accounts,
- Develop accurate site records to assist in the measurement and valuation of accounts regarding materials, plant, instructions, dayworks and drawings/specification changes,
- Develop an understanding of cost/value reporting procedures as well as client’s obligations under the main/subcontracts,
- Awareness of the main/subcontract terms and conditions and procurement processes.
Skills and Qualifications
- It is essential, that you can demonstrate a passion for Quantity Surveying and have an appreciation of construction processes.
- Ideally have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an Apprentice or a Trainee/ Assistant QS/ Estimator – preferably working for a Contracting organisation
- Ideally hold a relevant degree qualification or HND / HNC or be part way through obtaining an industry accredited degree.
- To have a full UK Driving Licence is essential, as travel and site visits will be necessary.
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
